We are thinking about trying something new for 2010...
We think we'd like to try to start an ENGLISH ONLY rule in the school.
The idea is that students are only allowed to speak English while they are in the school building. We will police this and I'm suggesting a small fine (20 cents) every time someone breaks the new rule. The money we take from the fines will go to SPPD The charity in India that we are working with.
During the breaks, and after classes, we'll have someone to walk around and make sure that the only language being used is English...
Please vote on this idea - if there are more YES's than NO's we'll test it for a week...

I reckon it's a great idea. Students would have to speak english at school, also at breaks and it would do a nice job for the charity ,too.
good luck!
Excellent idea guys. I know myself how hard it is to keep speaking English especially with one's own countrymen but hey! that's the only way to improve. Hope I can drop by soon and see if the new rule is doing well. Hugs for you all, miss you :)

I think it's a great idea... but just needs some care 'cause sometimes when you're so lost in a language it's a slow process. but yeah, I think it's great.
Specially the charity thing. Btw, I don't know how it works now there but maybe a voluntary donation would be great. but of course not as a rule... like a secure little box somewhere where people could give money if they wanted. Just an idea...
I hope the rule works! I remember when between my french friends we decided just to speak in English. It really makes a big positive difference.
Miss everything and everybody at Annalivia!
big big hugs

Teachers need to explain goals. Learning a language has the goal of communication of one's complex thoughts and feelings. Teachers need to explain basic principles and how to use logic to arrive at conclusions. See "Teaching and Helping Students Think and Do Better" on amazon.
